An estimated 100 million sharks are killed every year with the majority of the fins being used for shark fin soup.  We have designed this special shark ecotour and safari to give you a much better appreciation of these majestic creatures.  You will meet with world-renowned shark experts, get up close and personal with sharks and leave with an understanding of what is needed in order to protect dwindling populations of this apex predator.

Full Day by Day Itinerary

Day 1-4

Oyster Box Hotel, Umhlanga Rocks

Just outside of Durban is the seaside resort town of Umhlanga Rocks. The tropical weather and lush vegetation make this an enticing holiday destination, attracting visitors from all over the world. Private sessions with The KwaZulu-Natal Sharks Board Maritime Centre of Excellence (KZNSB) interacting with the biologists / scientist / staff understanding the research and work done, and enjoy a PRIVATE boat ride out onto the ocean.

Day 4-7

Grootbos Private Nature Reserve

Whale Coast – This rugged stretch of South African coastline snakes along the Atlantic Ocean, with magnificent mountains rising up on the other side. The spectacular scenery is made up of charming seaside villages, farms, rivers, coves and valleys, and during the right season, the region’s namesake – whales – can be seen cruising and wallowing in the coastal waters.

With breath-taking panoramic views of mountain and sea, the Grootbos Private Nature Reserve is a luxurious pristine paradise showcasing the splendour of the Cape Floral Kingdom and the incredible marine life of the southern tip of Africa. Grootbos, in partnership with Marine Dynamics, is geared to take you on a captivating boat cruise to the world-renowned Shark Alley between Dyer Island and Geyser Rock where the Great Whites feed on the Cape Fur Seal colonies.

Day 7-10

One&Only, Cape Town

Resting at the confluence of the Indian and Atlantic Ocean, sandwiched between the slopes of the iconic Table Mountain and the glistening sapphire waters of Table Bay, the exceptionally scenic city of Cape Town is in a class of its own. The One&Only hotel is adjacent to the Two Oceans Aquarium.  This aquarium runs a number of shark conservation and tag and release programs including the M-Sea program (Maxine Science, Education and Awareness Program) aimed to gain scientific information about ragged-tooth sharks and to raise awareness of their plight. The aquarium also supports the Sevengill shark research project.
